One Of Our Editors Takes Us Behind The Scenes At The Ethan Allen Disney Event
ETHAN ALLEN X DISNEY
Two years ago Ethan Allen CEO, Farooq Kathwari took his grandkids on a trip to Walt Disney World and saw the magic of Disney in their eyes. It was at that very moment he knew the partnership of two iconic American brands had to be formed. Kathwari called Disney CEO, Bob Eiger to propose a partnership and the rest was history. Fast forward a year and a half later and we are finally here to witness the launch of the very much anticipated Ethan Allen x Disney furniture collection.
I was excited to attend the launch party for the Ethan Allen x Disney collection held at their New York City showroom. Corporate members from Ethan Allen and Disney as well as the Disney Style team and fashion bloggers were all there to celebrate the launch. Music, appetizers and cocktails were flowing. Disney themed treats, like Mickey cookie shots, were a fun addition to the dessert menu.
Several pieces from the furniture line were on display and arranged into a home setting. The collection definitely includes something for everyone in the family. You could really go all out and make your home a Disney paradise or subtly incorporate some tones of Disney sporadically around the home.
There were many unique features of the furniture line that I loved and could see in my own home. Colorful artwork portraying modern and vintage Mickey and Minnie quickly caught my attention. Hidden Mickeys were a plenty throughout the collection’s rugs, bedding, blankets and hardware. Bright throw pillows with Mickey’s face embroidered on them lined the couches.
Whimsical mismatched table legs were another fun detail incorporated into some nightstand furniture pieces keeping the playful side of Disney in the Ethan Allen design. Several lamps included USB ports for easy device charging access.
Kids pieces were versatile and used various hues of pinks, blues and reds. Specific attention was given to the kids furniture to ensure the pieces would be able to grow with the child, not just to be used during the toddler or youth years. Delicate pink Minnie themed chandeliers could be added as your daughter grows and Mickey surfboards could be added to a son’s room as he matures.
A special treat of the night was having Disney artist Jeff Shelly present at the party. He was busy all night sketching his favorite Disney characters for all attending the launch to take home as a souvenir. I requested a classic Mickey and Donald drawing from Jeff and loved every second watching him bring the dynamic duo to life right before my eyes.
Ethan Allen corporate members hinted at future collaborations with Disney still to come. I hope they will continue to expand the collection to include some of our favorite classic and modern princesses as well as other famous Disney characters we love. But for now, I look forward to seeing how other Disney fans incorporate pieces from the current collection into their everyday home life.
