The Great Monarch Migration Is In Route And We Stopped To Visit Them On Their Journey At Peninsula Point

Several years ago my spirit guide came to me as a butterfly.

I started to see them everywhere and receiving messages from loved ones who had passed on that they were all together and I would find them where the blue butterflies where. My therapist was born and raised in Oaxaca, and told me all about the places where the butterflies meet each year. As I became more aware of butterflies and their deep spiritual symbolism, I also learned of just how important they are to our very existence here on earth. It became my mission to do better and be better for them. And so I did research and learned about local native species to plant in order to give them a place to rest and eat and populate on their long journeys each year. We planted a butterfly garden and have come to really love being a part of their journey.

Little did I know that a place I grew up visiting each year, has been a vital stop in the great Monarch migration path. This year we were fortunate enough to be visiting Peninsula Point Lighthouse while the butterflies were making their trek.

As you make your way down the long and winding road that becomes a narrow dirt path, you start to see glimpses of Monarchs fluttering about.

They make their journey down south, usually sometime during September in the Michigan area. If you are hoping to plan a visit to a Monarch Migration point, it is important to monitor and track each year as there is no specific date of travel, it is more so just a time frame of year they are usually expected.

We visited Peninsula Point Lighthouse the weekend of September 5th and 6th. We saw hundreds of butterflies clustered together and taking flight. It was so surreal and beautiful. We were told that its best to see them all clustered in the cedar trees at sunrise and sunset. As the drive is pretty long down a unlit road, we opted to visit during the day and still were able to see quite a bunch of eager Monarchs.

I tried my best to capture them on my phone camera for a little bit, but there are just some things that should be experienced entirely without having to be held captive by your phone, so I opted to just sit in the moments of them flying off and sending them on their way.

Similar to snorkeling the deep blue coast of Hawaii, this was one of those life changing moments in which you realize how small you are in the universe, and truly discover just how vital each species is to our great planet.
